I have been experimenting with some new software, which creates slideshows that are viewable on iPhones and iPads. Click the link to see the example slideshow.
So this website is a portfolio site where I can explain work in depth, but as a designer, I feel I should also have a visual gallery. I’ve been toying with a design for a while, but I’m still tinkering with the look. I thought I’d post a few images here to see if there is any feedback. These are just prototypes of the splash page. They are mock ups to see how the design would look, but the rollovers would all be separate instead of all one piece.:
Prototype #1: A black and white theme.
Prototype #2: Another version, different technique and letters.
Prototype #3: A variation using the logo I designed.
Prototype #4: A variation of Prototype #3
Prototype #5: Another variation of Prototype #3
Prototype #6: Another variation.
Prototype #7: Yet another variation.
Prototype #9: Last one, I promise.

So, I have been doing some freelance work from a startup in Columbus, Ohio, called Brand Thunder. I can work from home, which is nice and I have learned a few new things so far because of the job. They design customized browsers. I remember I used to download and install browser themes (or skins as we called them back then) in 1999-2000. I really hadn’t thought about them until now. It’s an interesting business model. The Bing search engine is built into the browser. Right now they design for Internet Explorer, Firefox and soon Chrome. It’s interesting work, but I’m mostly doing generic browsers and anything else little that they need done. Not much work so far and it’s pretty sporadic. In the meantime, I’m trying to teach myself more css and HTML5. Above is my first browser design for Brand Thunder that was published. The first one I did for them was kind of a test run and it wasn’t published because it was for Valentine’s Day and it was right around the time it needed to go up and they didn’t have time to post it. That one is below, but I’m showing you just the topper because it was not installed in the browser. (Click on the images to see them bigger)
Working for Microsoft on a one-year contract as a Photo Editor/Designer/Project Manager meant I often got assigned miscellaneous projects that came up through the corporate channels. They could be for print, video, web or have some other special purpose, so I pretty much had to be ready for anything. I even did a sign and logo for our Halloween Party. Microsoft holds a huge Halloween decorating contest and party every year in their offices. The year I was there, our office space was designated the Haunted Disco room. Our building name was Studio D, so I suggested using the name Studio D54, like the famous 70s Disco in New York. I created the logo and the sign for the room. It was part of a haunted house and when people came through, they were scared by Zombie KISS members and zombie disco-ers doing the Thriller dance. They also created a video of movie stills from disco movies and had disco music running in the background for one of the rooms. I gathered all the movie photos for the video.
I also got to help with a project for the Windows 7 software package. I researched all of the photos that come with the system software for desktop and screensavers. So those were included in the version released in 2008.

This was a slideshow on Cheating Politicians. I researched photos for each slide and picked the best photos to depict the subjects from many different sources, such as AP, Corbis, Getty, Everett, Redux, eStock and several other image services. I even had to call other news services to obtain and negotiate for usage of photos owned by them. I always write the captions and make sure everything is credited properly and correct. I routinely was responsible for making sure each photo used was paid for promptly through our payment system. This request came from MSN.com and I worked with them to complete the project by their deadline. This slideshow was promoed off of the MSN.com home page, so it got traffic in the 2 million page view numbers.
Note: This slideshow ran after I left, so some things changed, such as my ‘The Good Wife’ intro slide. I also designed a special logo for this slideshow, but we decided to go another way instead. This logo was created in Photoshop.

When Ted Kennedy died, MSN editors requested two slideshows. One on who’s who in the Kennedy Family Tree and one on the Kennedy Family Curse. These slideshows were both assigned on deadline. I researched photos for each slide and picked the best photos to depict the subjects from many different sources, such as Corbis, Getty, Everett, Redux, eStock and several other image services. I always write the captions and make sure everything is credited properly and correct. I routinely was responsible for making sure each photo used was paid for promptly through our payment system. I worked with content producers to complete the project by their deadlines. These slideshows were promoed off of the MSN.com home page, so they each got traffic in the 2.5 million page view numbers.

Note: The content editors had a choice between two intro slides. Instead, they mistakenly put both in as slide 1 and slide 2. That is why the image of Ted Kennedy is repeated in those slides. Unfortunately, I tried repeatedly to get them to change it, but they were too busy and did not.
